Audi RS 5 Sportback, the new and innovative high-performance model on the market, debuted at the New York International Motor Show (March 28 to April 9, 2018) in its US and Canadian markets, to impress speed enthusiasts. Its features combine design, performance, and convenience for everyday use.

“The Audi RS 5 Sportback is more than just a new model at an international trade show, it is something new for innovation enthusiasts,” said Michael Julius Reins, CEO of Audi Sport GmbH. Our innovative vision of a high-performance five-door coupe is the first of its kind. “This new model will bring the essence of RS models to the road for a great driving experience.”

The exterior design of the new Audi RS 5 Sportback combines attractive curves with a sporty body. The dynamism of this model is evident in the longer wheelbase, shortening the front and rear spans, the hood with its distinctive design and sporty lines.

The sides of the car are particularly unique when viewed from the rear at a tilted angle, and Quarto's legacy is accentuated by design shapes that suggest the power of the wheelbase, which has a 15-millimeter wider base.

The front of the car comes with its wide, vertical, single-frame grille, solid air intakes featuring a hexagonal bee-like design that is popular for the RS model, as well as a front wing with a Quattro matte aluminum emblem. In addition to the distinctive headlights, the car has an additional aspect in the design of the front with a bright black front grille to give the RS 5 Sportback a bigger look.

The RS models feature a diffuser-mounted bezel with oval vents for the exhaust system of these models that combine with the diffuser to give the rear of the car a sporty look. The RS 5 Sportback comes with 19-inch wheels as standard, while 20-inch wheels are available as an additional option. The new Audi RS 5 Sportback can be customized with gloss black, carbon, and matte aluminum stripes.

The 2.9-liter, twin-turbocharged, twin-turbocharged engine and TFSI direct injection technology ensure robust performance, fuel efficiency and power up to 331 kW. The engine has a maximum torque of 600 Nm and can be achieved through a wide range of speeds ranging from 1,900 to 5,000 pm. The two turbochargers of the six-cylinder direct-injection engine generate charging pressure of up to 1.5 bar.

As with all new Audi six- or eight-cylinder engines, the turbochargers are mounted at a 90-degree angle to the two-cylinder blocks, placing the exhaust manifold inside and the air outlet. This positioning allows the engine to have a smaller design with fewer fuel paths, minimizing flow loss, and the 2.9-liter direct-injection engine responds almost instantly to the throttle movement. Combustion in the Brighton cycle with direct central fuel injection enhances engine efficiency.

The 2.9-liter direct-injection engine power is transmitted to the four wheels with a central differential via an eight-speed Tiptronic transmission featuring improved transmission times specifically tuned to the sporty driving style.

It distributes power between axles asymmetrically at 40:60 for dynamic driving, optimal traction, and optimum driving safety. When slippage occurs at any axis, most of the power is immediately transmitted to the other by up to 85% forward. And 70% for the rear and this locking effect enables specific torque distribution to ensure precise collaboration between control systems. For those who wish to drive a customized sport, they can optionally opt for a sport differential gear that transfers torque between the rear wheels optionally.

The five-point design on the front and rear axles offer remarkably enhanced comfort even in the most extreme driving conditions. With the standard RS suspension, the RS 5 Sportback is seven millimeters lower than the Audi S5 Sportback. Audi Sport offers the choice of RS sports suspension, dynamic driving control (DRC), ceramic brake lending and a dynamic RS system.

Drivers can customize the driving experience to suit their desire, whether it is more dynamic or more comfortable, using the Audi Dynamic Drive Selection System, which comes standard.

The interior of the new Audi RS 5 Sportback is designed with a sporty touch of high-quality materials in black. It can accommodate up to five passengers, while its one-sided box-shaped rear trunk and one-meter-long loading space can take advantage of up to 480 liters of storage. Fold the rear seats for extra space, bringing the total storage volume to 1,300 liters. The rear seat backrest is divided by 40:20:40. The RS 5 Sportback weighs 1,840 kg

The sporty nature of the five-door coupe is highlighted by details such as the RS sports seats, which can be picked up in a sleek Nappa leather bee design, and the RS multifunction leather steering wheel. The RS logo can be seen on the seats, the steering wheel and the edge of the front panel lines as well as the joystick. The Audi RS virtual cockpit shows specific information about tire pressure, torque, and acceleration. When using the manual driving mode, a light appears on the board that alerts the driver to shift speed when the engine speed threshold required for transmission is reached.

Some of the distinctive features of the RS design also appear in the car such as red stitching on the steering wheel and joystick, as well as Alcantara knee pads as well as red-edged seatbelts and RS floor mats. Audi Sport introduces the Audi RS 5 in Sonoma Metallic Green as an exclusive paint finish.

It is planned to be available at Middle East showrooms starting in the fourth quarter of 2018.

The above information applies exclusively to the Audi RS 5 Sportback version for the US and Canada markets. This model is currently not available for purchase in the Middle East, Germany and EU markets.
